How to review literature and write literature review?

Many students have problems with how to do literature review and how to write literature review. Some tips:
- What to look for? journals, books, seminar papers, thesis, monographs, technical research reports
- Where to look for? online and offline; e-library and library
- How old is the literature? The rule of thumb says it should be less than 10 years old, but for technology related papers, it should be less than 5 years old. Classical materials should be more 20-30 years of age.
- How to write? The review should be divided into 2 parts: theoretical discussion (theories, models, approaches) and past studies (research reports)
